Though the nomination of a U.S. candidate to head the multilateral lending organization ruffled diplomatic feathers, and several countries angled to challenge Claver-Carone's candidacy or postpone the vote until next year, ultimately Claver-Carone has the support of Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay, Colombia, Ecuador, Bahamas, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Panama, the Dominican Republic, Suriname and Venezuela (represented by opposition leader Juan Guaidó).
